Born in Pforzheim, Germany
Johannes Daniel Becht was born in Pforzheim in Baden-Württemberg. The city and its surrounding region later became the setting for his first reporting and professional bylines.
Journalism begins at Pforzheimer Zeitung
Work in local journalism began as a teenager and developed across reporting, online news, sports coverage and photography. This became a five-year practical foundation before university.
A first look inside a major Berlin newsroom
A sports-desk internship at Der Tagesspiegel broadened the view beyond local reporting. It included a published interview with Olympic sailing champion Willy Kuhweide about Olympic competition during the Cold War.
From early contributor to broader editorial responsibility
Continued work for Pforzheimer Zeitung built experience across community reporting, public institutions, sports, digital production and online-news workflows. Published work included interviews, event coverage and reporting involving public authorities and civil-society organizations.
American and English Studies in Frankfurt
At Goethe University Frankfurt, the academic focus moved toward English-language literature, culture, history and analytical reading. This phase prepared the later transfer to the United States.
From Frankfurt to Weatherford, Oklahoma
The move to Southwestern Oklahoma State University connected academic communication studies with an unusually practical environment: a student newsroom, American local reporting, film production and independent creative work.
Communication Arts at SWOSU
The program combined Strategic Communication with a Film Production minor. It connected audience, messaging and media theory with journalism, photography, video, sound, editing and collaborative production.
Four years at The Southwestern
Reporting grew into news editing and multimedia production. The archive documents campus and local coverage across public safety, COVID-19, higher education, politics, health, events and video journalism.
Reporting through COVID-19 and campus crises
As News Editor, Becht produced frequent, service-oriented coverage of closures, case numbers, vaccinations, elections, public safety incidents and university decisions. The period demanded speed, verification and clear updates for a community facing uncertainty.
Morning News Tonight
An independent news and commentary project created room to work across writing, SEO and social media outside an established newsroom. The original website was later discontinued, but surviving records preserve the project.
A concentrated learning phase across media and marketing
Dozens of verifiable LinkedIn Learning courses and four broader learning paths expanded skills in cinematography, video production, media and communications, SEO, writing, marketing, public relations and social media. A HubSpot Social Media Marketing certification was issued in April 2022 and remained valid through May 2024.
College Secrets and the Green Screen Studio Award
The student talk-show and mini-series project developed practical directing, producing and camera experience in SWOSU’s Green Screen Studio. The work received a departmental Green Screen Studio Award.
Learning film by making films
Alas I Am Free, Mord and Good Bye expanded practical experience in acting, writing, directing, producing, cinematography and editing. These smaller productions became building blocks for later, larger work.
Oklahoma Newspaper Foundation internship
An eight-week funded placement at The Lawton Constitution turned student reporting into daily local-news practice. The program record documents more than 60 published contributions across reporting, photography and video.
Jack B. Shelton & Walter Crouch Scholarship
The SWOSU Foundation scholarship recognized an essay about Ukrainian photographer, filmmaker and war correspondent Mstyslav Chernov and the role of visual journalism during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Consume: in front of and behind the camera
In Zachary Hokeah’s psychological horror drama, Becht played Franz Koch while also working as second assistant director, boom operator and camera operator. The production later screened publicly with a Q&A at SWOSU.
On set for Resurrection Road
Becht joined the production of Ashley Cahill’s feature film as a Confederate Soldier, gaining experience on a larger professional set alongside his independent film work.
Summer return to The Lawton Constitution
Becht returned to the newsroom for another summer of local reporting, photography, video and digital production across public institutions, community affairs, education and events.
Final semester at The Lawton Constitution
Multimedia newsroom work continued through the fall semester and concluded in mid-December, alongside the final months of the degree at SWOSU.
Jack B. Shelton & Walter Crouch Scholarship
The SWOSU Foundation again selected Becht for the 2023–2024 Jack B. Shelton & Walter Crouch scholarship. This recognition was tied to the essay on journalism’s structural pressures that later became Journalists on Fire.
Journalists on Fire published
An essay submitted for the 2023–2024 Jack B. Shelton & Walter Crouch scholarship examined structural problems facing journalism. After submission, a lightly expanded version was independently published as an e-book.
B.A. in Communication Arts completed
Graduation from Southwestern Oklahoma State University completed the transatlantic academic path: Strategic Communication as the primary direction, supported by a Film Production minor and four years of applied newsroom experience.
Becht Works Media Production
An independent media-production identity brought film, video and visual projects under one creative umbrella. It preserves a direct connection between the Oklahoma production years and later public-facing media work.
From Oklahoma media work to Berlin digital strategy
The next chapter did not abandon journalism. It moved its habits—research, structure, sourcing and audience awareness—into SEO, content systems, website optimization and the emerging question of how AI systems discover information.
Digital Marketing Manager at WEVENTURE
Berlin-based work spans SEO, content, website optimization, accessibility and digital visibility. The role connects editorial skill with technical website systems and increasingly AI-aware approaches to discovery.
On set for Bloodstained Ivory
Becht appeared as a Showcase Attendee in Klein Haley’s psychological thriller, adding another professional feature-film set to his acting experience.
Pallaton filmed, completed and privately premiered
Filmed from December through February, the 22-minute English-language action drama became the most complete independent film credit of the Oklahoma period. Becht directed, wrote, produced and edited the film, appeared on screen as Hartman and premiered the finished work to a selected audience in February 2024.
Second place in Video Journalism or Marketing
The Oklahoma Press Association recognized The Preamble, a weekly Lawton Constitution format created with Scott Rains that introduced the weekend edition’s stories with humor.
Health Compass
An independent health-information and publishing project brought together editorial production, WordPress, multilingual planning, health communication and search visibility. Its content is informational and does not replace individual medical advice.
Medical-Coding.org
A specialist information platform expanded the owned publishing portfolio into medical coding, claims, denials and professional development. The project combines information architecture, SEO and plans for practical digital resources.
Johannesbecht.com relaunches
The relaunched website introduces a clearer, faster and more accessible user experience, a new blog and a stronger structure for exploring work, expertise and projects across devices.
